On the 19th of September I had surgery for a hammertoe and bunion on my left foot. So, not fun.
I didn’t even have general anethesia and I was so sick to my stomach for two days I couldn’t handle anything more than sleeping. I couldn’t even walk to the bathroom so my husband was wheeling me there on my office chair. I didn’t walk on it all. Before the surgery they gave me one of the those big boots to wear and instructed me to bring it on surgery day. But the dressing was so bulky the boot wouldn’t fit so they gave me a shoe that looks like a sandal. I ended up not using the boot so I am trying to get a refund for it. The shoe comes off and goes on way easier.
My first post surgical follow up was last Thursday. I saw the physician’s assistant for that. He looked at the stitches and commented that everything looked good and put a fresh dressing on it. He also commented on the fact that I hadn’t been tryig to walk on it. I didn’t know that I could until then. Well, I walked out of the house that morning and walked to the car in the garage. This last week I’ve been able to walk around the house and get up and walk to the bathroom.
They gave me pain killers that we picked up the day before the surgery. Hydrocodone. I’ve been using them sparingly. One of the side effects is digestive issues. I don’t need any of that. Yes, it hurts at times but the pain comes and goes.
I get my stitches out next week and the splint and rod he put there to hold everything in place. He had to remove bone from both toes.
My right foot is headed the same way and I have decided that I won’t go through this again. We got a brace that I can use to prevent the need for another surgery.
Have a great day! See you next time
